Type Locality and Naming

It is from the Anren Gr named by the Fujian Geological Survey Team in 1965. The type section is located at Guankeng, Anren in the Zhangping County, Fujian Province.

Lithology and Thickness

Lower part is calcareous sandstone and siltstone. Upper part is purplish red siltstone intercalated with feldspathic quartz sandstone. Thickness is over 1309 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation is in conformity on the underlying Xiwei Fm of greyish brown thick-bedded argillaceous find sandstone by the greyish green thick-bedded fine sandstone.

Upper contact

It is in conformity under the overlying Dakeng Fm by the first occurrence of thick grayish-black siltstone.

Regional extent

The lithology of this formation looks constant but occurs only in the area of Zhangping and Dakeng. It becomes thinning from around Anren as a center. The thickness is about 1100 m in Makeng-Xiuqitou, Zhangpings, but only the lower part is exposed at Weixi, Datian and it is 215 m thick.

Fossils

Fossils are rare in this formation, including Neocalamites sp.


Age 

Tong et al. (2019, Triassic integrated stratigraphy and timescale in China, Science China: Earth Sciences, v. 62, no. 1) assign it as spanning Anisian.
